The Winter Garden is open 24/7.
Brookfield Place began as the World Financial Center in the 1980s, part of a larger plan to revitalize Lower Manhattan after the Hudson River piers fell into decline. Over time, it evolved into more than office towers, becoming a hub for culture, shopping, dining, and community life at the heart of Battery Park City.

The Winter Garden is the palm-filled glass atrium at the heart of Brookfield Place, overlooking the Hudson and North Cove Marina. It hosts concerts, art installations, seasonal events, and has plenty of open space to sip a coffee, take a call, or just take it all in.
The palms have been part of the Winter Garden since 1988, when the first set was introduced with help from the New York Botanical Garden and horticulturalist John Mini. Because they grow quickly indoors—up to two feet a year without the natural “exercise” of wind and rain—they eventually outgrow the atrium.
For safety, they’re replanted roughly every ten years once they reach about 55–60 feet. The current set, planted in 2024, has become a downtown landmark, offering shade and atmosphere for millions of visitors until the next generation of palms takes their place.

Brookfield Place is deeply committed to sustainability, with efforts that span dining, retail, public spaces, and even our rooftops.
At Hudson Eats, diners can compost food scraps, recycle properly, and use liquid-only bins to keep containers out of landfills. We also partner with ThinkZero to reduce waste and divert materials away from landfills year-round.
On our rooftops, ten urban beehives support local pollination and produce ultra-local honey—look out for collaborations with our shops and restaurants.
Our restaurants are also proud partners of the Billion Oyster Project, which helps repopulate oyster reefs in New York Harbor by collecting shells to restore marine habitats.
Sustainability extends into our shops and services too: Madewell offers denim recycling, Chopt leads with a 75% plant-forward menu, and Plaza M Spa provides organic, non-toxic treatments.
